After working on Grad School applications for soo soo long, February 1st was the deadline for most of my schools. I got eight applications in, along with a polished website, and a couple of last minute shows/awards to add to my CV. I feel really good about my applications.

Here is an image of the two cup sets that were accepted into the Twin Cups show, juried by Mike Stumbras. The reception is at the Potter Fine Arts Gallery at Missouri Western State University campus on February 23rd.

This week in the studio, I’ve been working on new coil mugs. Instead of using slabs for the bottoms, I’m trying to just use entirely coils, which is challenging because the centers of the spirals usually separate with shrinkage. Its challenging but I think I can get it to work.

I also threw a few simple pots for our upcoming Student Fundraiser at IUS on February 21, 11-2. Students will be selling handmade goods to help us get to NCECA, which is in Pittsburgh, PA this March. Our class has also been testing out some terra sigillatas, and I’ve been thinking about using some. I was throwing with a lizella clay body today, which was super short and difficult to throw, but the color is beautiful. I thought lizella would make a really nice terra sig.
